Merley Greenidge of Celebrate Sweetly to host April 15 meeting

Merley Greenidge of Celebrate Sweetly to host April 15 meeting

“Showing appreciation is a natural and important part of building business relationships,” says Merley Greenidge, owner of Celebrate Sweetly. “People do business with people they know, like, and trust.” Strengthening those relationships requires some effort, which is why businesses turn to Celebrate Sweetly for thoughtful, personalized gifts to mark special occasions and to thank employees and clients.

Known as “the Gift Whisperer” to her family and friends, Merley founded Celebrate Sweetly in 2012. She has a background in hospitality and a talent for event planning and gift giving. “I knew all the birthdays and made sure to send cards and gifts at the appropriate time,” she says. “I meticulously planned and coordinated our daughter's birthday parties and always put together gifts for friends and teachers.” Her help and advice was already being sought after by family and neighbors, so when her husband received a generic, perfunctory holiday gift from a client, she knew she could keep others from making the same mistake.

Celebrate Sweetly provides custom corporate and personal gifts for all occasions, including thank you gifts for clients, employee appreciation, client retention, life celebrations and more. They can personalize gifts with printed ribbon and hand-written notes to assure the recipient of the care that went into selecting and wrapping each gift. Merley has gift options for any budget, whether you’re looking for five gifts or a thousand gifts. The business is also expanding their offerings to include subscription boxes, even if the circumstances surrounding that decision were less than ideal.

“COVID-19 brought our operations to a screeching halt,” says Merley. But that unforeseen free time allowed her a chance to take stock of what else the company could offer their customers. In addition to subscription boxes--containing locally-sourced small-batch items in their “California Unboxed” gift and more far-flung items in their “World Unboxed” subscription--Celebrate Sweetly also began to offer virtual event boxes and morale-boosting gifts. In fact, now might be a better time than ever to use Celebrate Sweetly’s services. “Despite what’s going on in our world, right now is still a great time to send a gift to simply let someone know they are appreciated,” says Merley.

All the usual favorites are still available for all the usual occasions, like the fan-favorite personalized cutting board or the decadent “staycation” collection. To those Merley has added snack boxes and experience boxes for virtual events like weddings and graduations, as well as “welcome back” gifts for employees returning to the office. Celebrate Sweetly is also offering a new 3-tier membership service to make your gift-giving an even better experience.

With all these new gift options, Merley will need to expand her operations. A small production team would help with the new “World Unboxed” subscription, and they will certainly need space to pack and stage all the boxes. Having a large network will help to fill these needs, and Merley knows that her fellow Synergy members have her back. “I feel as though I have my very own cheering section and a team that is always there to offer support, use my services or send me referrals,” she says.

She has enjoyed referring people to other Synergy businesses too, as well as turning to Synergy members for her own business training, design, printing, and insurance needs. Merley is proud that Celebrate Sweetly is a 100% black woman-owned business that shops local with small-batch vendors; strives for sustainability with earth-friendly, reusable gift boxes; and gives back to the community by partnering with Harbor House and Conejo Compassion Coalition. Helping others and fostering strong relationships built on trust and appreciation is not just Celebrate Sweetly’s business model--it is how Merley goes about her life. “Whatever you do,” Merley says, “do it with integrity.”
